New York City — Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, yesterday met Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High Level Week.

Ranking Member Meeks discussed U.S.-Brazil relations in light of President Trump’s illegal imposition of 50% tariffs and sanctions on Federal Supreme Court Judge Alexandre De Moraes. Meeks underscored the fact that the United States ran a trade surplus with Brazil and emphasized that Brazil—being the largest democracy in Latin America—has been a key partner in the region. Meeks affirmed his desire that the United States strengthen, not rupture, the bilateral relationship with Brazil.
