Washington, DC — Today, Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, applauded the passage of a long-overdue national security supplemental for Ukraine, Israel, the Indo-Pacific, and for humanitarian aid around the world:

"After far too many months of dangerous delay caused by Republican dysfunction, the House has finally passed urgently needed support to our allies and partners.

“The passage of this supplemental comes at a dire time for Ukrainians, who have continued their brave resistance against Putin’s brutal war of aggression despite running critically low on ammunition and defensive arms. This replenishment will allow Ukraine to repel Russian advances, protect its democratic path, and prove to Putin that the West remains united against his territorial ambitions, whether that be in Ukraine, or any other sovereign nation in Moscow’s sights.

"Though we are already over six months into Israel’s war against Hamas, Iran’s unprecedented strikes on Israel reinforces the urgent need to restock Israel’s air defenses, and shore up its military posture to deter Hamas, Iran, and its proxies from escalating conflict in the region. It is also essential that humanitarian aid is in this package, as it is critical for addressing growing crises in Gaza, Sudan, Haiti, and elsewhere around the world.

“Additionally, the supplemental includes funding for our partners in the Indo-Pacific to bolster deterrence and promote peace in the region in ways that will enhance America’s interests and safeguard the global economy. This support is critical for countering Beijing’s destabilizing behavior in the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea and its attempts to undermine the international rule of law.

"I hope to see this package swiftly pass the Senate and be sent to President Biden’s desk so it may be signed into law. The passage of this supplemental comes at a pivotal time, with peace and democracy in the balance. Today stands as a testament to the United States’ unwavering commitment to its partners and allies, to U.S. global leadership, and to the national security of all Americans."
