WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement on the terrorist attack in Bangladesh:

“I'm appalled by the terrorist attack in Dhaka.  The victims are people of all walks of life from around the world, because the terrorists targeted a place known for drawing crowds of foreigners visiting Dhaka.  Aside from the carnage they inflicted, including the death of an American citizen, the aim of these fanatics is to make us live in fear.  We cannot allow them to succeed, but instead must strengthen our resolve to see them defeated.

"The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with the Government of Bangladesh as it attempts to confront violent extremism and bring to justice those responsible for this horrible attack."
