WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today spoke with Mexico's Chargé d'affaires in the United States Ana Luisa Fajer. Representative Engel reiterated the importance of the close friendship between the United States and Mexico and expressed his unhappiness with recent actions by the Administration that have damaged ties between the two countries. Representative Engel shared his views that the Administration's planned border wall is a mistake, and that he regretted the departure from strong bipartisan support for U.S.-Mexico relations enjoyed during the George W. Bush and Barack Obama Administrations. Representative Engel and Chargé Fajer discussed shared responsibility on the issues affecting both countries, and agreed that they would continue a dialogue to explore areas for closer cooperation. Finally, Rep. Engel informed the Chargé he planned to introduce a resolution reaffirming the importance of the partnership between the United States and Mexico.
