Washington—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:
“By nominating Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield as our ambassador to the UN, President-elect Biden has demonstrated the value he places on putting expertise and a commitment to public service at the center of our diplomacy at the United Nations.
“Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s decades of leadership in the Foreign Service and the strong relationships she has maintained across the world have uniquely equipped her to represent the United States, reinvigorating American leadership on the thorniest issues.
“After four years of the Trump Administration isolating our country and denigrating our allies, I look forward to seeing Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and the Biden Administration reengage with countries around the world to advance American values and interests, from re-joining the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement, to working towards realizing the Sustainable Development goals and advancing human rights.”
