“More than a week has passed since the Trump Administration flouted the law, trampled on the constitutional role of Congress, and pushed ahead with a massive and controversial arms sale to countries in the Gulf. We have reviewed the Administration’s explanation of the so-called ‘emergency’ in the Middle East that required circumventing Congressional oversight, and their case is utterly without merit. It cannot stand. Members of the Foreign Affairs Committee will soon introduce a series of measures to stop this sale from going forward, and next week we will demand answers from the Assistant Secretary of State who oversees the bureau responsible for arms transfers when he appears before our committee in an open hearing.”
