Today, the Trump Administration’s foreign assistance budget was revealed to the public, showing that the Administration intends to stick with its devastating proposal to slash American diplomacy and development. These cuts would threaten American security and undermine the role of the United States on the global stage. Earlier this month, Democrats on the House Committee on Foreign affairs underscored just how dangerous these cuts would be.

“The Trump Administration’s budget cuts would be devastating to America’s national security and our leadership role in the world. Congress should reject them without question,” said Representative Eliot L. Engel, the Committee’s Ranking Member. “Any reorganization of USAID should be based on smart, clearly defined goals and objectives, not on blanket, arbitrary spending cuts. Congress has the power of the purse, and the Trump Administration must engage with Congress before making decisions that will have severe, long-term repercussions.”
