New York– Rep. Eliot Engel, the senior Democratic Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement regarding the recent violence in Cambodia.
“I strongly condemn the recent spate of violence in Cambodia, which has left three individuals dead and many more injured. I urge all sides to exercise maximum restraint, or risk allowing events to quickly spiral out of control. Protestors must rein in those individuals employing aggressive and violent tactics, and security services must immediately halt the use of lethal force. The Cambodian government should take into account protestors’ concerns about wage and working conditions and do more to facilitate a peaceful and meaningful resolution to this crisis.”
