Washington—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement:

“I’m outraged that Republicans continue to block Congressional consideration of the Yemen War Powers resolution.

“I call on Leader McConnell to move H.J.Res. 37, the House version of this legislation, which was carefully considered under regular order in the House. This resolution was not privileged in the House, but we moved it anyway.  The Senate should do the same.

“Using the addition of language condemning anti-Semitism and supporting our ally, Israel, as an excuse is a cynical ploy to avoid voting on this important measure. Senate Republican Leadership should demonstrate that they want to see both a political solution to the conflict in Yemen and stand behind those of us who are fighting growing anti-Semitism. You can have both. The resolution doesn’t have to be privileged to receive consideration.”
