Washington, DC - Today, Representative Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Representative Don Bacon (R- NE) issued the following joint statement concerning the introduction of a bipartisan Resolution in support of Ukraine on the three-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
A PDF of the House Resolution can be found here.
“As we observe the three-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the United States must reiterate that Russia, as the invading force, is solely to blame for this brutal war, and that we stand by Ukraine in its right to defend itself. The Resolution we have introduced today commends the Ukrainian people’s struggle for freedom, acknowledges the critical support that the United States and partners have provided to Ukraine, and sets a framework for diplomatic efforts to make any peace both just and sustainable.
“Putin made clear his ambitions when he falsely argued that neither the Ukrainian people nor state have a right to exist. He followed through with an illegal and brutal expansion of his war against Ukraine’s sovereignty and freedom. But he could not break the will of the Ukrainian people who have risen to the occasion, bravely defending their homeland and their democracy. The United States must continue to stand with our transatlantic allies and make clear that no country can take another sovereign country’s territory by force.”
