Washington, DC – Chairman Tom Lantos (D-CA) announced the creation of seven subcommittees and the election of their chairmen today by majority members of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Members formed subcommittees with jurisdictions spanning the earth and covering a range of the most pressing global challenges. They elected their chairmen and chose subcommittee assignments in an open nomination and ratification process that also included approving the committee’s rules and oversight plan.

In alphabetical order, the subcommittees and the people who will lead them are:

Africa and Global Health – Donald M. Payne (NJ)

Asia, the Pacific, and the Global Environment – Eni F.H. Faleomavaega (American Samoa)

Europe – Robert Wexler (FL)

International Organizations, Human Rights, and Oversight – Bill Delahunt (MA)

The Middle East and South Asia – Gary L. Ackerman (NY)

Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade – Brad Sherman (CA)

The Western Hemisphere – Eliot L. Engel (NY)
