WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement:
“North Korea's sixth nuclear test and recent provocative missile launch over our treaty ally Japan dramatically increase tensions. North Korea's illegal and belligerent actions constitute a grave threat to the region, to the United States and to our allies.
“Unfortunately, the President's strategy on North Korea continues to fail to yield results. Now is not the time to chide our allies or call into question our economic and strategic commitments. Rather, the United States should be working in lock step with our partners to increase economic and diplomatic pressure to obtain a freeze of the North Korean nuclear program.”
