Washington—Today, Chairman Eliot L. Engel and Ranking Member Michael T. McCaul of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and Chairman William R. Keating and Ranking Member Adam Kinzinger of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, Energy, and the Environment released the following statement on the decisions by the European Union and United Kingdom to impose sanctions on notorious Putin crony Yevgeniy Prigozhin. In March, the lawmakers sent a bipartisan letter urging Ambassador Stavros Lambrinidis, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, to use the full economic toolkit at the EU’s disposal to push back on Prigozhin and his associates.

“We welcome the European Union and United Kingdom's decisions to join the United States in sanctioning Russian operative Yevgeniy Prigozhin. From supporting the Kremlin's efforts to meddle in American and European elections to propping up dictators to stoking deadly conflicts around the world, Prigozhin's nefarious activities know no borders. Today's announcement sends a clear message that the US and our European allies will stand together in ensuring the Putin regime and its cronies, including Prigozhin, are held accountable.”
