New York City — Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, met Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High Level Week.
Ranking Member Meeks congratulated Vice President Marquez on her historic Vice Presidency and her strong commitment to a more just and equitable Colombia. Ranking Member Meeks discussed the need to protect and expand collaboration between the United States and Colombia, and ways to leverage economic investment to benefit all Colombians, including historically marginalized indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities. The leaders discussed the need for greater collaboration following the dismantling of USAID, and the path forward for the implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement, particularly the Ethnic Chapter.
