Washington, DC — Today, Ranking Member Gregory W. Meeks released the following statement welcoming 24 Democratic Members to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, including 5 new members joining the Committee for the 118th Congress:
“It is my great pleasure to welcome our returning Democratic Members to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as several new Members to the Committee for the 118th Congress. Whether it is Russia’s ongoing war of choice in Ukraine, strategic competition with China, or any of the many threats to democracy and human rights abroad, this Committee will work with the administration, our partners and allies abroad, and through international fora to address threats to U.S. national security and our values. I look forward to continuing the Committee’s work elevating American soft power and our alliances in order to promote democratic values, economic prosperity, and the rules-based order around the world. As Ranking Member, I will lead efforts to work in bipartisan manner with our Republican colleagues to address these challenges, and to provide our State Department the tools it needs to remain the world’s premier diplomatic institution. The Committee will benefit greatly from the tremendous talent and expertise these Members will bring to our work on behalf of the American people.”
