WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement regarding the announcement of a new 10-year Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Israel:
“I welcome news that the United States and Israel have agreed upon a long-term memorandum of understanding. Despite growing budget pressure, this MOU will provide Israel with the resources and certainty to effectively plan for its security needs over the next ten years. This is a worthy legacy for the Obama administration.
“As Israel faces worsening threats around the world, this MOU demonstrates that the United States will stand with Israel. No matter who is elected the next President of the United States, this MOU guarantees a robust level of security assistance and ensures Israel's qualitative military edge. I’m confident that support in Congress for this agreement—like support for Israel in general—will be strong and bipartisan.”
