Washington, DC — Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement concerning Iran’s missile attack on Israel earlier today:

“Iran’s aggression in the region, through this missile strike and support of multiple proxies, has endangered Israelis, as well as U.S. personnel, and serves to further destabilize an already perilous region. I agree with the Biden Administration that there must be consequences for Iran’s behavior. But I urge the American and Israeli responses to be strategic and impactful. And Iran must immediately cease and desist from shooting rockets at the State of Israel.

“Right now, the United States government is still monitoring the situation and collecting information. I look forward to working with President Biden and Vice President Harris on a response that serves U.S. interests, and that of Israel and our partners in the region. I stand with Israel and its right to defend itself, and look forward to a time in the near future where diplomacy takes center stage.”
