Washington, DC – Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced the Democratic members of a new bipartisan task force on foreign arms sales.
“I’m proud to announce a strong group of Democratic Members, led by Representative Madeleine Dean, on the newly formed taskforce on arms sales. Committee Democrats’ priorities on this taskforce are clear: supporting allies and partners in an increasingly dangerous world, preserving critical congressional oversight, and safeguarding U.S. technology from adversaries. The United States has benefitted from alliances that have kept Americans more secure for more than half a century, and we must ensure that our arms sales further these alliances, while upholding respect for human rights, preventing civilian harm, and advancing our national security,” said Ranking Member Meeks.
"Now more than ever, it’s imperative that the United States supports our allies — while maintaining Congress’ oversight authority. America is the indispensable nation. It is our duty to ensure that all arms sales comply with U.S. and international law, and that U.S.-made weapons of war are not used against the most vulnerable or to exacerbate already dire humanitarian conditions around the world. I’m grateful to Representative Meeks for his leadership, and I look forward to serving alongside this bipartisan group of colleagues,” said Rep. Dean.
