Washington—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, today issued the following statement:
"In the wake of mass protests and Prime Minister Hariri’s resignation, I call on all parties to refrain from violence, respect Lebanon’s sovereignty, and uphold the Lebanese Constitution in the political process unfolding now. It’s clear that sustained, thorough efforts must be undertaken to address the Lebanese people’s deep concerns about economic instability and corruption. As the country works through this challenging time, I’ll continue working to strengthen the deep social, cultural, and economic ties linking our two nations."
