New York City — Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, met with the President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High Level Week.

Ranking Member Meeks reaffirmed the strong U.S.-Guyana partnership, and congratulated President Ali on the one-year anniversary of his reelection. The Ranking Member underscored steadfast U.S. support for Guyana's territorial integrity against threats to the Essequibo region, and commended President Ali's leadership within CARICOM and across the Western Hemisphere. The two discussed ways to elevate the U.S.-Guyana relationship, deepen bilateral cooperation, and advanced shared priorities in the region.
