WASHINGTON – Representative Eliot L. Engel (D-NY), Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Representative Michael T. McCaul (R-TX), Ranking Member of the Committee, today congratulated the new co-chairs of the Congressional Argentina Caucus, Representatives James A. Himes (D-CT) and Jeff Duncan (R-SC):

“The United States and Argentina are natural partners with our diverse economies, highly educated populations and vast natural resources. Since my time as Chairman of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee, I have prioritized this crucial partnership, and I look forward to continuing to put Argentina at the front of the Foreign Affairs Committee agenda,” said Chairman Engel. “I congratulate Representatives Himes and Duncan on their new role leading the Congressional Argentina Caucus at such a critical moment.”

“It has been a great pleasure to launch and co-chair the Argentina Caucus. I am pleased to pass the baton of leadership to Representatives Duncan and Himes, who I know will do an outstanding job for the Caucus. Argentina is a great U.S. ally that shares our values of democracy and freedom for the region. I know that our new co-chairs will continue to prioritize the critical partnership between our two countries and look forward to working with the caucus and Chairman Engel to sustain the bilateral relationship with Argentina within the Foreign Affairs Committee,” said Ranking Member McCaul.

“It’s an honor to Co-Chair the Congressional Argentina Caucus and to reignite the spirit of partnership and collaboration between our two nations. Through increased dialogue and better understanding, we’ll be able to impact the world in a more positive way, leaving a lasting and positive legacy for future generations based on mutual interests and cooperation,” said Rep. Himes.

“As the former Chairman of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee, I am proud to Co-Chair the Congressional Argentina Caucus with Congressman Jim Himes to further strengthen the important U.S.-Argentina relationship. I am also thankful for the support of Chairman Engel and Ranking Member McCaul as we continue to work on important issues in the Western Hemisphere and around the globe,” said Rep. Duncan.

Representatives Engel and McCaul launched the Congressional Argentina Caucus in January 2018 as a platform for bringing together policymakers from the United States and Argentina with an interest in enhancing the bilateral relationship between the two countries. The Caucus holds briefings and meetings with key stakeholders and helps educate members of Congress and congressional staff on developments in Argentina. It also serves as an incubator for policy ideas on how to strengthen cooperation between our two countries.
