New York City — Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, met with Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam on the sidelines of UN General Assembly High-Level Week.

Ranking Member Meeks underscored 31 years of U.S.-Vietnam diplomatic relations and the enduring friendship between the American and Vietnamese people. The leaders reaffirmed support for the elevation of the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022 and pledged to deepen economic and security cooperation going forward. The discussion also included the importance of protecting human rights and working together to address shared regional challenges.
