Washington, DC — Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement concerning the recovery of six bodies of hostages held by Hamas, including American-Israeli Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who Hamas abducted from the Nova Music festival on October 7th

“I am devastated by the news that the bodies of 6 more hostages held by Hamas were recovered, including American-Israeli Hersh Goldberg-Polin. I have gotten to know Hersh’s parents, Jon and Rachel, who have appeared before Congress on numerous occasions. Jon and Rachel’s tireless advocacy on behalf of Hersh, and all the other hostages, demonstrates extraordinary strength and character under the most excruciating circumstances. I mourn with them today, along with the families of Ori Danino, Eden Yerushalmi, Almog Sarusi, and Alexander Lobanov, who were all abducted from the Nova music festival, and Carmel Gat, who was abducted from Kibbutz Be'eri.

“I reiterate my call for a ceasefire in Gaza that results in the release of all remaining hostages, and a renewed surge of humanitarian support to Gaza.”
