Washington—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement on the Department of State’s release of the United States Strategy to Prevent Conflict and Promote Stability pursuant to Chairman Engel’s Global Fragility Act of 2019:
“This landmark strategy from the Department of State, USAID, the Department of Defense, and the Department of the Treasury lays the groundwork for getting America’s international engagement back on track to help stabilize war torn areas and prevent violent conflicts before they break out.
“As required by the Global Fragility Act, which I authored, this strategy will focus and prioritize America’s international diplomatic, defense, and development efforts to help prevent conflicts before violence takes hold. It will also improve our efforts to stabilize ongoing conflicts by implementing best practices and lessons learned from decades of American engagement. The strategy will also embrace multilateral partnerships and make much needed improvements to program management and coordination across the United States Government.
“I look forward to working with the Biden-Harris administration to ensure this strategy is fully implemented in accordance with my legislation and America’s values.”
