WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, met today on Capitol Hill with Carlos Vecchio, whom Juan Guaidó has named as his Ambassador to the United States. Chairman Engel informed Mr. Vecchio that he stands with the Venezuelan people who have suffered for far too long under the kleptocratic rule of Nicolás Maduro. Chairman Engel also expressed his belief that the National Assembly is the only remaining legitimate institution in Venezuela and that a free and fair election monitored by international observers is the best path forward for the country. Finally, he stressed his strong opposition to any military intervention in Venezuela and emphasized his support for efforts to safely bring humanitarian assistance to the people in the region.
