WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, spoke last evening with the Honorable Robert Nault, Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development in the Canadian House of Commons. Representative Engel expressed his dismay that President Trump has started a trade war with Canada, Mexico, and the European Union at the expense of American workers and to the benefit of countries including China and Russia. He reassured Mr. Nault that the President’s irresponsible actions do not represent how the majority of our Congress feels about Canada and the importance of the U.S.-Canada partnership. With the G-7 meeting in Quebec approaching, Representative Engel told Mr. Nault that while President Trump has undermined U.S. leadership around the world, the U.S.-Canada relationship is much too strong to be destroyed.
