WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement:

“Today’s announcement was long overdue and the delay allowed Russia far too much time to continue its attack on American democracy. And more than a year after the start of this Administration, it defies belief that they’ve identified only 24 people and entities involved in Russia’s sweeping cyber and disinformation campaign and intervention in our election—many of which, ironically, are also targets of the Special Counsel’s investigation into the Trump-Russia Scandal. Perhaps this is a signal that the President has finally accepted what’s long been abundantly clear: Russia criminally interfered in the 2016 campaign to support his candidacy.

“I hope this is only a first step, because the scope of this threat is much larger than today’s modest announcement.”
