WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today released the following statement regarding recent reports that the White House is considering extraditing Fethullah Gulen to Turkey in an attempt to reduce pressure on Saudi Arabia over the killing of Jamal Khashoggi:

“If these troubling reports are true, this move would be yet another example of the shortsighted, transactional policies this administration has adopted instead of demonstrating actual leadership. America’s commitment to justice and the rule of law shouldn’t be a bargaining chip, especially over a misguided scheme to placate Turkey and avoid holding murderers to account. Fethullah Gulen, like anyone else in our country, is entitled to the due process within the law.”
