WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement on the murder of six Red Cross workers in Afghanistan:

“I'm heartbroken by the murder of six Red Cross workers in Afghanistan.  The Red Cross and other humanitarian aid workers operate in the world's most dangerous places providing assistance to those who need it most.  They don’t wear any country’s uniform or pose a threat to any group, and targeting them is the height of cowardice.  I hope the workers who remain missing are quickly returned, and that those responsible for this disgrace are brought swiftly to justice.”
