WASHINGTON, DC—Representative Eliot L. Engel (D-NY), the top Democrat on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement on the impending expiration of the Export-Import bank:
“The Export-Import Bank creates American jobs. It boosts American exports. And it does so at absolutely no cost to American taxpayers. In short, it's exactly the type of tool we need to take full advantage of a growing, changing global economy.
"But because Ex-Im has become the latest target of extreme right-wing interests, the House leadership is ready to let this important agency wither on the vine.
"On the House Foreign Affairs Committee, we work in a bipartisan way and get things done to advance American interests abroad. I urge Speaker Boehner to take a page from our book, call a vote to renew Ex-Im, and keep this American job creator moving ahead at full steam."
