WASHINGTON, DC—Representative Eliot L. Engel, the leading Democrat on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today released the following statement regarding Senate Foreign Relations Committee passage of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015.

“I welcome Senate Foreign Relations Committee passage of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, and I thank Senators Corker, Cardin and Menendez for their leadership. This compromise represents a bipartisan commitment toward preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.

“We must ensure that a final deal holds Iran to its obligations, establishes a strict inspections regime, offers sanctions relief only if Iran has lived up to its commitments, and addresses the IAEA’s concerns on Iran’s weaponization program.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate and with the Administration to ensure that Congress has a role in evaluating a comprehensive deal with Iran.”
