WASHINGTON, DC—Representative Eliot L. Engel, the leading Democrat on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today released the following statement regarding the accidental killing of Dr. Warren Weinstein during a counter-terrorism operation earlier this year.

“I want to express my heartfelt condolences to Dr. Weinstein’s wife Elaine, daughters Jennifer and Alisa, and the rest of the Weinstein family on the tragic news of Dr. Weinstein’s accidental killing during a counter-terrorism operation earlier this year. Dr. Warren Weinstein was a humanitarian aid worker who devoted his life to improving the lives of others all over the world. He was a Fulbright scholar, worked with the Peace Corps, and was in Pakistan working to help Pakistani families escape poverty when he was kidnapped by terrorists in 2011. Dr. Weinstein represented the best of America and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends today.”
