Washington, D.C. – Rep. Eliot L. Engel, the senior Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement regarding the release of the President’s FY 2015 international affairs budget.

“At a time of crisis in Syria, Central Africa, and now Ukraine, the President’s international affairs budget proposal supports America’s continued leadership and engagement in the world while recognizing budgetary constraints here at home. The budget provides the critical funding necessary for development and diplomacy, helps foster economic and political stability on a global scale, strengthens our allies, and fights the spread of poverty, disease, terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. These investments are essential to strengthening our national security, building economic prosperity, and protecting the health and safety of all Americans, while demonstrating our moral values and humanitarian principles. As the budget process advances, I look forward to working with the administration and my colleagues to address funding levels for global health and humanitarian assistance.”
