Washington, DC--Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY-16), the Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after President Barack Obama announced the resignation of National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, and the appointment of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice to replace him.

"I commend National Security Advisor Donilon for his stellar service to President Obama and the country. I wish him the best in his future endeavors.

“I look forward to working with Ambassador Rice in her new position as the President's National Security Advisor. She has performed an exemplary job representing the U.S. at the United Nations -- winning hard-fought battles to increase sanctions on Iran and North Korea, among other major accomplishments. I can imagine few people better qualified than Ambassador Rice to head up the President's national security team."
