Berman: “The reopening of the transit routes is important because it will help the United States and our allies conduct the planned draw down of troops in an expeditious and cost-effective manner.”

Valley Village, CA – Congressman Howard L. Berman, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, made the following statement in response to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s announcement today about the reopening of NATO transit routes through Pakistan:

“I welcome the reopening of the NATO transit routes through Pakistan, which are critical to supplying our troops in Afghanistan.

“The reopening of the transit routes is important because it will help the United States and our allies conduct the planned drawdown of troops in an expeditious and cost-effective manner.

“I hope this is a first step, and one on which we are able to build upon, in working with Pakistan to help establish a more stable, peaceful, and prosperous South Asia.”
