WASHINGTON, DC—Representative Eliot L. Engel, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement on the Nepali people’s adoption of their new Constitution:

“I congratulate the people of Nepal on the adoption of their new Constitution.  Following years of political infighting and rigorous debate, I’m pleased that Nepal’s constituent assembly was able to find a consensus.  Though the promulgation of the constitution is a praiseworthy milestone in advancing democracy in Nepal, I hope that Nepalis countrywide are able to peacefully engage with their government to continue the democratic process spurred by formal adoption of the Constitution.”
