New York City – Ranking Member Eliot Engel, the senior Democratic member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after meeting with Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou.

“President Ma and I had a very productive conversation about how to reinforce the strong bond between our two countries. I was pleased to update him on the progress of the Taiwan Policy Act, legislation I cosponsored that will do much to increase future high level Taiwanese visits to the United States. Of course, there is more that can still be done to deepen the economic, security, and political ties between the U.S. and Taiwan. I hope that we make progress in expanding trade and investment here in the U.S.”
