WASHINGTON, DC—Representative Eliot L. Engel, the leading Democrat on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement regarding the death of Argentine prosecutor Alberto Nisman:

"I am deeply saddened by the death of Argentine prosecutor Alberto Nisman who fought tirelessly in his pursuit of justice for the victims of the devastating 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish center in Buenos Aires. I visited the rebuilt AMIA building twice and laid a wreath of flowers in memory of the 85 victims of this brutal terrorist attack. I will never forget the sadness I felt during my time there. One thing was clear to Mr. Nisman and to all of us who seek justice in this case: overwhelming evidence links the attacks to the government of Iran and Hezbollah, all of whom must be held accountable for their actions.

"I urge the Argentine government to open an investigation into the cause of Mr. Nisman's death. He and his family deserve nothing less. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Nisman's family during this difficult time."
