WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement:

“I view the Foreign Affairs Committee as the most bipartisan committee in Congress. In the last five years, we’ve produced legislation that has made the United States safer and stronger, helping advance our interests and values around the world. We’ve left politics at the water’s edge to do what’s right for our country. For all those accomplishments, we have Ed Royce to thank.

“Chairman Royce runs our committee with fairness, intelligence, and a clear understanding of America’s role in the world. Under his leadership, our members on both sides of the aisle know their ideas will be heard and considered. And when we’re at odds, he works to find the middle ground and forge a path forward rather than allowing partisanship and politics to grind our efforts to a halt.

“Ed serves our country with integrity and principle. He has my deep admiration and gratitude, and I consider him a dear friend. I look forward to our final year of work together, and Pat and I wish him and Marie all the best in whatever lies ahead for them.”
