WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement regarding the release of the House Select Committee on Benghazi’s report:

“That the Benghazi Committee's report found nothing new of consequence is perhaps the least surprising development I've seen in my three decades as a public servant. After two years and millions of taxpayer dollars wasted, the Committee has done nothing but release 800 pages of information we essentially already knew, with a few cherry-picked details which hardly justify the Committee's existence.

“Because the Committee could find nothing to support the Republican leadership's stated goal—tearing down Secretary Clinton—apparently it focused instead on second-guessing civilian and military leaders making the best decisions they could under the circumstances. I can think of a few better things to do with the American people's tax dollars.

“With the release of the report comes one positive outcome: the 30-day clock to shut down the Benghazi Committee will soon be ticking, and this colossal waste of time and money is coming to an end.”
