New York City — Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High Level Week.

Ranking Member Meeks welcomed the progress made by President al-Sharaa's government since the repeal of the Caesar Act sanctions and Syria's removal from the State Sponsor of Terrorism list. The Ranking Member further underscored the importance of ensuring religious and ethnic minority communities are protected and fully represented in Syria. They also discussed regional security challenges, including preventing the resurgence of terror groups.
